Open Call

Art@WC Tower

Winners!

We are thrilled to announce that the Danish-American artist duo Lise Kjaer and Ole Lejbach has been selected to bring their proposal to life! Jurors Wendy Feuer (founder of @mtaartsdesign), Curtis Springstead, and Natalia Irina Roman praised the concept’s poetic and playful engagement with the tower’s rich history for all train passengers passing by.

Thank you to everyone who submitted! With so many strong proposals, it was a tough decision. Stay tuned for future calls, and we look forward to seeing more art along the tracks.

The multimedia concept is set for installation in late fall 2025 (tbc) by @lise_kjaer_ and @olelejbach. Waldwick Tower (@wcinterlock), a preserved historic interlocking tower, has been cared for by Curtis Springstead for 25 years in memory of his ancestor, Harvey Springstead, an awarded railroader. This upcoming exhibition will bring new meaning to the space, addressing train operators and passengers alike, enriching daily commutes.

The Tower exhibition is a project of the Waldwick Historical Society, curated by Natalia Irina Roman @sitespecificideas and managed by Curtis Springstead. Natalia has worked artistically with railway spaces since 2017, transforming former towers into art spaces for train passengers. With a @the_fulbright_program scholarship, she researched rail art potentials around NYC, focusing on projects between stations.
